Anello Sasso de’ Merchi

Il sentiero denominato Sasso de’ Merchi prende il nome da un’incisione che un tempo segnava il confine tra la proprietà dei conti Cervini di Vivo d’Orcia e la proprietà della Macchia Faggeta. L’iscrizione (“Caccia e pesca riservata a Luigi Cervini”), datata 1876 e ancora leggibile. Il sentiero, lungo complessivamente 2,8 km, supera un dislivello di 234 metri, rendendo il percorso di media difficoltà. L’anello, che parte dal piazzale del Primo Rifugio (quota 1277 metri s.l.m.), vi ritorna dopo essere sceso a quota 1160 metri s.l.m. dopo aver percorso la zona del Pian dei Renai, risalendo verso il Primo Rifugio, si incontra la sorgente Fonte Barbara.

The path called Sasso de’ Merchi is named after an engraving on the rock that once marked the boundary between the property of the Counts of Vivo d’Orcia and that of the Faggetia Macchia. The inscription (“Hunting and Fishing Reserved for Luigi Cervini”), dated 1876 and still legible, attests to the richness of Amiata, the sustaining fount of livelihood for the population of the area.
The trail, running a total of 2.8 km, exceeds an altitude difference of 234 meters, making the path one of medium difficulty.
The ring, which departs from the square of the Primo Rifugio (1277 mt.), returns after descending to 1160 metres above sea level and reaching the northern border of the property.
After crossing the Pian dei Renai area, heading back up to the Primo Rifugio, you will arrive at the natural spring Fonte Barbara.
