A journey for athletes who will be accompanied by our expert tour guides on a series of exhilarating and challenging rides.
This is a proposal for trained and experienced cyclists. You will take on two demanding but fascinating paths crossing Mount Amiata and Monte Labbro, accompanied by one of our expert guides.
Day 1 – Arrival Day
Arrival at the hotel, late afternoon. After checkin, a welcome cocktail. Then dinner with traditional local dishes and fine wines from Montalcino, Montecucco, Scansano and Montepulciano will be served.
After dinner, a slide show with music to introduce you to Mount Amiata and its beauty and traditions
Day 2 – The “Anello di Monte Amiata” (the track which ‘rings’ the mountain)
After breakfast we’ll leave for the Anello del Monte Amiata.
This is the route which best displays the characteristics of our mountain, the complete circuit ranging in height from 850 to 1200 metres above sea level.
To complete the entire route it is quite demanding. One can cycle over 80% of the way in a time that varies from 5 to 8 hours; there are manyplaces of interest to take breaks. The path can be ridden all year long. Spectacular beech woods and chestnut woods accompany the visitor all the way round, with occasional glimpses of the valleys below. The route varies from simple paths to rocky scrambles, from old mule tracks to roads through the woods – all of them rural paths. And it is not rare to see wildlife like roe deer, fallow deer, wild boar, squirrels, buzzards and falcons – this is a real plunge into nature. Another characteristic of the Anello is that the visitor can also choose to descend to visit the villages down below and then return to the main trail.
Expert cyclists are sure to be delighted.
Half way along the path we will serve you a picnic in a glade under the beeches.
In the late afternoon, we’ll return to the hotel. There’s time for you to relax before dinner with local wines.
After dinner, possibility to organise a live music event.
Day 3 – The Amiata Wildlife Park
After a substantial breakfast, departure by car for Santa Fiora. The ride starts from here.
After few kilometres on tarmac roads, we will take the rural paths that lead to the Tibetan centre of Merigar and then on to the Wildlife Park.
Having crossed the park, following the ‘wolves track’, we will continue towards Roccalbegna, the famous village built beneath the sheer face of a cliff. This road is interesting as it follows an old Etruscan trail. Having left Roccalbegna we head towards the Fiora river valley, along the challenging climb known as the ‘ascent of hallucinations’.
From here, we’ll return to Santa Fiora and then to the hotel in time for lunch.
Departure in the afternoon.
